Here are my favourite parts of blogging ! Reviewing all the movies I’ve seen in cinemas in March and April 🙂

Rating : 4.5/5

A production from Quebec that I fell in love with! The Dishwasher is one of the most well-done and well-crafted movies about addiction. Indeed, instead of giving us the glamourized version like so many movies, we get the real, and cruel world of addiction and the power it has on us. It shows how one can become completely vulnerable and alone. Blending white lies and hiding his turmoil, a dishwasher is trying to get his life back together.

A solid performance from Tenya Taylor playing Inez, a mother who struggles to find her voice not only as a single mother, but as a woman with a criminal background in a world where women are so easily dismissed and mistreated. Tenya Taylor delivered her performance with a rawness and truth that any mother could relate to her fight. This movie is about family love, with its ups and downs. Winning Grand Jury Prize and the Sundance Film Festival is a well-deserved honor.

I did not know about River Red before this movie and learned great things about its historical significance. Full River Red is at its core a comedy. However, with a detective plot kind of style and techno rap soundtrack it keeps the audience on its toes the whole time. The cinematography is also simply beautiful and has one of the most gorgeous color grading I’ve ever seen.

Can we start a cinematic universe where Willem Dafoe driving himself mad? Because I would watch it anytime. After Van Gogh, he has outdone himself in this psychological thriller as an art burglar getting stuck in a penthouse with nothing but its own technology. The movie under its layers of distress and human needs, we can find the meditation on the nature of life and art. However, the movie was weak in delivering its ending. I expected some kind of twist, a clue or hint related to the owner.

Released : March 16, 2023 – Trailer | also on Amazon Prime, Apple TV

Rating : 4.5/5

Have you ever told yourself, fuck it I’m going to live on a farm? Well this movie is it. But in a more subtle descent to madness, betrayal and neighborhood fights. It’s a brilliant Spanish thriller with excellent acting, it’s no doubt one of the best films of the year. The genius in this movie lies in the ability to create tension in a long period of time. It creeps up inside your head with so little.

Released : March 10, 2023 (Canada) – Trailer

One of the cutest movies of the year! It’s so nostalgic that everyone simply must watch it. It’s colorful, the easter eggs, I don’t think any 90s kid can expect more. This movie was not meant to be a cinematic masterpiece but I think it did exactly what it intended to : throwback thursday kind of fun. The artists behind this project, chapeau! The details in the graphics are absolutely insane, a real love letter to the Super Marios fans.

Released : April 5, 2023 – Trailer – In Theatres

As a big classical music lover, I would jump at any occasion to watch historical movies featuring violins. And guess what? They made a whole movie about a violonist, but not anyone, Joseph de Bologne! One of the first African French composer of its time. I’m so grateful for this movie for making me aware of his influence and now I’m totally obsessed with his music. As a movie, it does what it needs to do however I find the acting of the protagonist weaker than his colleagues. He sounded too arrogant and quite uncomfortable in his arrogance. Except from that, I still want people to watch this movie to learn a bit more about Joseph de Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges.

Love the John Wick action scenes, and the colors too!
Really enjoyed this one and would like to see a John Wick 5 too.
I just think it’s hard to get rid of Wick.
