MY RATING: ★★★/5
“I love her. Everything. The way she smells. Tastes. Feels. Jesus. The way she feels.”
– Joanne Proulx

Set in Quebec, we follow the lives of a family who had everything, but are being torn apart slowly. I think this is the kind of novel better to dig in without reading the synopsis. That’s what I did and I find myself enjoying it more than I thought. It’s the kind of story you don’t really know who the main character is because all the 3 members of the family have equal part in the story.
We have the child who’s dealing with his lust, teenager problems and social pressure. This may seem silly and stereotypical but the author succeeds in bringing a raw perspective of it.

She’s not afraid to show how it really is. Contemporary romance that’s the genre I would fit this book in. The Mom, who’s a successful banker turned into photographer, remarkable woman, strong and independent. I really love her character because she feels the most real. With a husband whose empire just collapsed, she finds her impulsion driving to another man and trying to deal and cope with it. The business turned into a lost and confused man and we get to follow his downhill from there.
I think the main message of the author was to show us how different types of people deal with loss of sense of self, failures and love. They show the very same pattern and as the book unfolds in the end you realize that anything can happen to you when you undergo certain circumstances. It’s funny because I could relate to all the three characters hahah. Looks like age is not the only criteria for our every day problems 😉

I removed 2 stars for the side characters who were not very pertinent and the lack of depth from the plot. The main characters were perfect but the plot has some holes in it and I was confused at times. A lot of people complained about the slow pace, but I didn’t find it slow at all. In fact, there was always something happening and I finished the book pretty fast.
Thank you to Penguin Random House for giving a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
