Just a girl obsessed with books and movies sharing her thoughts.

I was going to put up a review today but I feel like sharing my fcked up books instead haha 😉 The fcked up genre for me group the taboos, psychological thriller and weird plots that make you go omg…WHAT AM I READING.

The Whole Collection of Chuck Palahniuk Books

chuckpalahniuk-15 My favourite book from him is Invisible Monsters but all the other books are pretty fucked up to be honest. Haunted has some of the most disturbed short stories while Choke provide us with a solid story about sex addiction and the lies we tell ourselves and Rant is still about the extravagant and crazy imagination of Chuck while toying with the timeline.

We need to talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver

we-need-to-talk-about-kevin

Also a favourite of mine, this novel depicts the life of a mother who struggles to connect with her son. Since the beginning, Kevin acts very strange and silent, not obeying his mom, learns to play with her feelings and even lie and manipulate people around him. As we read, we don’t know why he only behave this way towards his mom and tries to understand his hatred…

Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane

9780593047972-us-300That moment where you find a movie as good as the book! If you watched the movie, I still recommend you to read the book. It offers such a deep dimension to the story and more mindblown plot twists 😀

Red Dragon by Thomas Harris

28877I’VE LOVED THE SHOW SO BAD. I had to give this book a try !

Will Graham stands in a silent, empty house communing with a killer. An FBI instructor with a gift for hunting madmen, Graham knows what his murderer looks like, how he thinks, and what he did to his victims after they died. Now Graham must try to catch him. But to do it, he must feel the heat of a killer’s brain, draw on the macabre advice of a dangerous mental patient, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, and follow a trail of microscopic clues to the place where another family has already been chosen to die–and where an innocent woman has found the Dragon first.

SAGA VOL.1 by Brian K Vaughan

250px-saga1coverbyfionastaplesFcked Up in a weird and good way ! This graphic novel has won so many prize for a reason !

When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe.

What books would you add to the list? 😉

I so want to watch Red Dragon. Thanks for reminding me. I just might pick up the book too. I don’t read many psychological thrillers and such.

I haven’t read Saga, but I definitely agree with all your other picks Trang. I’d also add:
Midnight In the Garden Of Good and Evil by John Berendt
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
    You by Caroline Kepnes
The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey
The Good Girl by Mary Kubica
I Let You Go by Flare Mackintosh
    It by Stephen King

I have so many others, including many by King, but I can’t possibly list them all!

Sudden Death is a great but extremely weird book. I frequently set it down and said “what the f*ck?” while reading it.

“In this mind-bending, prismatic novel, worlds collide, time coils, traditions break down. There are assassinations and executions, hallucinogenic mushrooms, utopias, carnal liaisons and papal dramas, artistic and religious revolutions, love stories and war stories. A dazzlingly original voice and a postmodern visionary, Álvaro Enrigue tells a grand adventure of the dawn of the modern era in this short, powerful punch of a novel. Game, set, match.”

Great post idea! I just downloaded We Need to Talk about Kevin and I loved the movie Shutter Island, so if there’s more twists in the book, I’m in, going to give that a go as well

Good old Chuck P. I read some of his books. I’ve read almost all of Leanne’s books, including Shutter Island. He’s a good writer. Of course, I read all about that loving cannibal’s stories too. Effed up, but good effing reads.

Just saw the title and knew I was going to love this post 😂 I love Saga so much!!!! It’s so weird, but I think that’s why I love it haha. I’ve been meaning to read some Chuck Palahniuk for ages and all the rest of the books you mentioned are on my TBR too. I’ll have to try and get to them soon because fucked up books are my favourite, haha.

I knew there would be a Palahniak book or two, but I did not expect to see all of them. 🙂

Red Dragon was amazingly creepy and exciting at the same time. It’s so different from the TV show though! I really liked Hannibal as well, but I still haven’t watched all of the last season yet, oops 😀

I never saw the Shutter Island movie. Not because I wasn’t interested, but because my brother ruined the ending for me. Years later, I still remember the ending that he spoiled because that’s how my brain works sometimes.

Also I’ve heard a lot about Saga, mostly good things, but never checked it out. Every now and then I feel like I should, but something always comes up.

This is such an awesome topic!! And, while I think saying I “loved” We Need to Talk about Kevin is probably the wrong way to describe the feelings I had for that crazy, intense book- it definitely is a shockingly good read!! I haven’t read any of the others on this list- but definitely want to check them out- especially Shutter Island and Saga!!

I really can’t believe that I haven’t read anything by Chuck Palahniuk yet! 😂 I have heard before that his books are messed up and that alone made me want to read them. But I honestly have no idea where to start with his books. Which one would you recommend me to start with? 🙂 I also really love Hannibal, it’s such a good show! I really need to continue watching it soon. Great post!
