Trang is back with another review ! From a new genre of books I’ve been LOVING lately : MODERN POETRY BOOK! These two books were very popular and were circulating on m Tumblr feed for a while.
Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur: ★★★★★

Rupi Kaur is such a great author.
I don’t even know where to begin.
Her words are beyond perfection.
I have always loved the power of words. And these 204 pages were a complete work of art. Poetry in his simple form. No complicated syntax nor vocabularies. Simply a girl, a victim, a woman who’s been through rape, heartbreaks and love. She uses the simplest words, so simple yet so efficient it hurts. There’s something about her poems that speaks to your inner woman soul, how society perceives you and how it can affect you. She stands strong against the stereotypes and encourages the empowerment of one woman to another. #GIRL LOVE #yes to diversity
Raw and brutally honest. Spellblindly sexy too.
The words were jumping out of the pages, they were living. A must read for anyone.

Dirty Pretty Things by Michael Faudet : ★★★
As you start this book, you will notice immediately that Lang Leav and Micheal Faudet are lovers. Lang Leav has already established her popularity as a poetry author among today’s generations. Unfortunately, the introduction she wrote for this book is also the only thing I love about this book.
As much as I want to like this book, I find it not so pertinent. Overall, it’s 60% of time him repeating things that Lang Leav has said. We get it you’re together but I wanted to read his words not hers. If I wanted to, I could just grab her book and I wouldn’t bother with this one.
Finally, he was obvioulsy trying way too hard. His writing is very juvenile and sophomoric. I think out of 274 pages, there were only ..3 poems that I liked.
Here are some examples that I find very dull :
“Lust is a lovely word and makes love
so much more interesting.”
“Naked guilt,a punishment dealt;
over a wooden table
where a jam donut
is noticeably absent.”
…HUMMM..no. Just no.
AND FOR GOD’S SAKE, Why is every girl in his poems wearing short skirts ?! Feels so cheesy and full of cliches. Cotton white panties..and skirts.. and some more skirts… *sigh
I guess that’s the thing with subjective poetry reading, you get it or you don’t and that’s what happens here with these two books.
Hope you enjoy this review 🙂 Let me know if you have read these two and what books you would recommend me !
