My Rating: ★

Goodreads: When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

I had such high expectations for this novel ! I think I’m going to just stop having them when reading a Sarah J,Mass novel hahah the same thing happened when I was reading Throne Of Glass.  As you can see, I gave it two stars and here’s why..2016-06-06 01.41.34 1.jpg

1.The main Character : Feyre

First, Feyre kills a wolf, who is a Faerie in disguise, (beast like creatures who got the powers to take on humans pretty easily). That wolf is not anyone, he is A BELOVED BROTHER TO THE HIGH ROYALTY OF ALL FAERIES. Now, guess how lucky she is?! She got the choice to not die and come live in a palace. Ohh myy what a punishment! How does she react: ”nooo I can’t leave my family blaba”, even when her family is telling her THAT THEY’RE FINE WITHOUT HER.

Once in the huge castle, she got escorted by Tamlin ( The lord of this land), get nice clothes and a lot of food, treated like a real princess  but SHE CAN’T STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT WANTING TO GO HOME AND ESCAPING. Girl, you got everything everyone would dream of but you can’t be happy about it.

2. The pace

One of the worst pace I’ve read so far. It’s soo sloww, I’ve never experienced this turtle speed before. 400 pages like that, I tend  to read very fast but it was so boring at times I had to pause and delayed it. It’s only when it hits 300 pages that the pace went from really slow to really fast. WTF MAN? It’s like in the last 100 pages, she got the chance to eat breakfast, go to a concert, learn the violin, save the world, save the entire nation and becomes Mrs President in the same day.

whosaidturtleswereslowcouldmakeagoodabandon_9d7933_3842088

3. The easy life

Everything comes easy for Feyre, if she wants an answer to something she has it She always had help, somewhere somehow, if she wants to find a magical creature that no one can, she finds it. I don’t like it when the character has everything she can have, what’s the point of the character development then? Give me hardwork, give me labors that are going to shape her personality and make her stronger. SOMETHING. SPOILERS: and the trial in the end , just when you thought she was going to fail a test, someone somewhere comes to her rescue!giphy1

And here it goes.. again and again.. The never-ending circle of having an easy life.

Furthermore, the writing is not amazing either. Pretty much basic writing style for teenager. I was sad that I couldn’t enjoy this book as much.

The only character I like in this book is Rhysand, such a mysterious and dark character. He is the High Lord of the feared Night Courts, so give me more Rhysand and I shall be happy haha!  For those of you who read A Court of Mist and Fury, should I read it?! Is it better than the first one? Let me know 🙂

So it’s not even starring the same characters as Throne of Glass? Also, it sounds pretty bad the way you describe it. Even if I read another of Sarah J Mass’s books, sounds like I’ll be skipping this one, so thanks for the warning.

I agree with you for the most part! I do not understand why this got so many 5 star ratings (though I did like it better than Throne of Glass). I liked the second book in this series more than this one, but it is LONG and the pacing is again pretty slow. But there is WAY more Rhysand which is why I think I liked it more. Again, though, it’s not a 5 star read.

The second book is slow too ? TT_TT What’s the point of making a book so slow I can never get it hahah ! Thanks for telling me I think I might read it just for Rhysand hih. Is it the final book in the series ? :O -Trang

There is at least one more book (I’m hoping it’s only a trilogy, but I’m not 100% sure). I think the book could have been about half as long, but if you like Rhysand, it’s definitely worth a read.

I did Trang! I liked it much more than you did but I understand your points, especially how things just seemed to fall into place for Freya. Are you going to try A Court of Mist and Fury?

Aww, I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy this book as much as you wanted to! Sarah J. Maas’s books tend to be more of a miss for me which is why I passed on this one, and judging from your review I think that was a wise decision on my part. Feyre would’ve annoyed me as well with her complaining and easy life. Are you going to be continuing with the series?

It’s a pity you didn’t enjoy this, but to each his own, I guess! The second book was actually pretty amazing, and since you like Rhysand, I really suggest you pick it up. ACOMAF is a fantastic book, so I’m crossing my fingers and hoping you like it!

OH great review! I read good reviews for that book so far, but I knew that there were some bad reviews just as well, I’m glad I have actually READ one ahah, so I know what I can expect when I read this book. I don’t know if I will read it, to be honest, because I think Feyre would bother me way too much, and characters are just so important 😦

I just picked this book up yesterday and plan on reading it today. I got it because I’m taking a bit of a break from adult romance fiction and wanted to catch up on all of the YA reads I’ve been missing out on. I saw that so many people were raving about this book on Booktube, but now I’m kind of anxious to read it. I’m not a fan of characters who don’t have to work for anything either.

I need to see character growth and a bit of struggle. Hopefully I’ll enjoy this book. Haven’t picked up A Court of Mist and Fury yet because I wanted to see if this series is worth the hype. Great review!

Oh my God, you absolutely need to read A Court of Mist and Fury! It’s one of my favourite books of all time ❤ and it's a thousand times better than ACOTAR – I promise 🙂

I like your review, because it addresses a lot of issues I had with ACOTAR myself. I didn't really enjoy it and didn't get the hype. Feyre seemed like a very weak and passive character and there wasn't any character development I could relate to. (- totally not the case in ACOMAF though!)

Haha I was really unsure about reading ACOMAF since I didn't really like ACOTAR either, but I was curious about how things turned out with Rhys ❤ and I wasn't disappointed at all!
Well, there are some plot issues, but the character development is so much better, there are new characters you cannot help but love and – most importantly – it has Rhys all over it 😀
