Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

MY RATING : ★★★★

This book was amazing! Looks like Victoria Aveyard took a whole bunch of the best aspects from different books and created her own universe. I’m going to list all the similarities I found and why I think it’s awesome!!

“Rise, red as the dawn.”

– Victoria Aveyard

divergent copy

Mare Barrow, a Red commoner, who is also a rebel, a thief, must go to war to serve the Silvers due to conscription. However, she knows that she is going to end up dead if she follows that destiny because the Reds are defenseless in opposition to The Silvers who are far more dominant because of the super powers they possess. After unexpectedly making her way to the Silver’s Castle, she discovers that she is not a simple Red Commoner. She is a Red blood with powers. That change of situation will shock the entire Silver World and they will try at nothing to keep her under their loops.

Her character’s development was outstanding in this novel! Unlike in Glass Sword.. But I will get to it in my GS review haha. I loved Mare in this novel because she was vulnerable, she decided to adapt, stood on her own while being far from her families and close friends. She had to survive to the courts’ rules and the envious vipers’ eyes.

houses

Inside the castle, there are different High  Houses who live together. The difference with Harry Potter is that each house is inherited with a power.  For example, House Calore can manipulate fire. Click here for our Read-Along post detailing the housesScreen Shot 2016-04-18 at 1.58.50 AM

THIS CONCEPT IS SO COOL. Somehow, the fact that inside of a school you are separated in different families and that you can create new bonds, having competition between the houses and all, has always been a concept that I’ve loved seeing in every fantasy book I read. It makes you want to belong to a group and root for them.

Inside the Silver’s Castle, there’s  also a training schedule where all Silvers have to practice and compete with each other so they can reach their power’s peaks. That reminds me of Hogwarts ahah 😀

arena

HERE’S WHAT EXCITING. There’s an event in the book where the different Houses have to COMPETE against each other YES YES. Isn’t that thrilling?  I always loved a good old battle between supernatural forces; and the book delivers it.

This book was AMAZING from start to finish. If you haven’t read it yet, you have to try it out as soon as possible!

I loved this book, too. Mare reminds me so much of Katniss and Aladdin. It sounds weird, but here’s my review, if you want to check it out. https://rantandraveaboutbooks.com/2016/03/20/rave-review-of-red-queen/

Haha! It was the first thing I thought of when Mare was pickpocketing as she walked through the marketplace. The book had so many other popular stories all rolled into one, which is probably why I liked the book so much.

I loved this book! It was really amazing! I haven’t read the sequel yet but I’ve seen lots of people got disappointed with it so I’ve pretty much lowered my expectations on it. Anyway, I’ll look forward to your thoughts on it when you get to it. Great Review! . 😀

I’m pretty sure I’m repeating myself and I’m probably going to do it again but: WONDERFUL REVIEW and BOOK ADDED TO TBR. This blog is dangerous – my TBR is threatening to kill me already and amazing blogs like this and their reviews are not helping me solve the problem. This probably makes it pretty weird for me to say THANK YOU FOR CONVINCING ME TO PICK IT UP (and for driving me toward my unfortunate death).
