MY RATING: ★★★☆ ☆
I’ll start by saying that I had really high expectations for this book from all the hype I see around WordPress,Goodreads, Tumblr and Instagram. Like, litterally everywhere. For those who haven’t read this book yet and are wondering hmm what’s this book about and why is it so popular ? Here’s my summary for you: Celaena, who’s a famous assassin has to go in competition against other criminals to become the King’s Champion, in other words, the King’s Assassin. In the meantime, she gets close to Chaol, the captain of the guard and Dorian, the Crown Prince. A little romance here and there and bang. You got the story for the novel. That’s it?! No no !! My favourite part in the novel : there’s a series of mysterious murders happen inside the castle and nobody has a clue. The bodies are placed in the most bizarre way possible. Now you must ask yourself, omg..is it a horror story? NAH. REALLY NAH. The suspense is there but you won’t have nightmares about it.
“Libraries were full of ideas–perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.”
― Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass
Overall, I didn’t find the book as amazing as I thought it would be. The first chapters of the book were quite slow but it did help on developping the characters and the plot I have to give that. Also, I expected way too much from our protagonist. I expect her to be kick-assk, cold hearted murderer and assassin.

She was the opposite. Sensitive, princessy-like, fall in love too quickly for an assassin who is supposed to kill people and not get attached easily (that’s only my opinion in comparison with other assassin’s characters I’ve read so far). My friends, if you read the book with this knowledge I’m sure you’ll appreciate more haha. Being more prepared is always good!

However, in the end, man the book didn’t disappoint ! I gave it 3 stars for something, right? You got to see the characters’ development and the story unfolds into some real actions that I’ve been dying for. My advice is this : if you start the book and you like what you’re reading, that’s great! If you don’t, continue and do not give up since the ending is totally worth it and it makes me want to read the rest of the series.
Furthermore, from what I’ve read on Goodreads reviews is that there are two type of people reading the book, you either like Celaena character and personality or you don’t. I must admit, I didn’t haha but once I knew she was a bookworm and can get some kick-assing done, OKAY I’M SOLD. No seriously, connecting with the characters is quite important for me that’s why I mention this in my review haha.
I also had the chance to do a Read-Along with Anette , Lora Shouse and Luke Taylor ! What is really cool with this read-along is you can actually see our different opinion about the book LOL I think it’s pertinent to mention the variety and diversity of opinions for this one.
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
In conclusion: read it and see it for yourself.
1.I’m the only one who had a problem with her personality LOL

2. We all agreed on the lack of actions but again..
3. I’m totally TEAM CHAOL ❤ Dorian reads books yes good good. But that’s it. And I’m even more team Chaol at the end because at least, he steps up when Celaena gets beating badly by Cain while Dorian didn’t do anything.
If you want to read more about what other bloggers thought about the book :
P.S : A TV SHOW IS COMING FOR THIS SERIES !
For the last February read-along, I’ll be reading The Night Circus with Jacqueline, if you’d like to join me for future read-alongs , you can contact me here 🙂
