My rating : ★★★★☆

“So come with me, where dreams are born, and time is never planned. Just think of happy things, and your heart will fly on wings, forever, in Never Never Land!”
J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan: Fairy Tales

After seeing millions of adaptations and hearing about the tale, I finally picked up the book and read it. And I’m telling you, it is sooo worth it. I’m not going to talk about the blurb here since I assume that pretty much everybody knows the story of Peter Pan, but for those of you who don’t it’s about a boy who didn’t want to grow up 😉 I love the book, but somehow, knowing a lot about the story already kind of ruined the reading experience for me. Luckily, there are still details and facts that I didn’t know about and was surprised by them! Otherwise, it was such a fun read. How I wish to see Neverland at least once in my life (and return to my life after that of course LOL) !

“Fairies have to be one thing or the other, because being so small they unfortunately have room for one feeling only at a time.”
J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

J.M Barrie creates a unique world with fairies, pirates, crocodiles, mermaids, and magic. And of course, the legendary character of Peter Pan. Oh man, was he weird in the story. What I mean is that he is not the typical hero I expected. Cocky, selfish, also doesn’t really know the real world since..you know.. he never grows up. Reading the book, I somehow feel that the author wants to deliver us a subtle message of raising children: how important it is that a child is taught to think of others, to be humble. In my  opinion, Peter Pan and Neverland were the representation of an ironic world. A world where you don’t want to grow up but you still want to be a leader, beat the pirates,  but at the same time avoid the real responsibilities of being an adult. Showing the unhealthy sides of a childhood not developing and still revealing the dark tone of an adult life. And that ending.. OMG NO ONE HAS EVER TOLD ME ABOUT THAT ENDING. Thank you movies for not spoiling and mentioning it hahah 🙂
